Texas General Land Office

    The Texas General Land Office was created by act of the 1st Congress of the Republic of Texas on December 22, 1836 — “An act to establish the General Land Office for the Republic of Texas, Regular Session.” It began operating October 1, 1837, when its first obligation was to collect “all records, books, and papers, in any way appertaining to all the lands of the Republic.”
